1.) Speak up. Have more programs available for males to participate in, in school as well as outside of school. Stop judging men and boys who suffer from eating disorders and give them a safe space to speak about what they are experiencing.
2.) Stop the stigma. We need to break the continuance of negativity surrounding men with eating disorders.
3.) Take precautions. Have psychiatrists and nutritionist on hand in sports teams to ensure that the athletes are taking healthy steps.

I think you are right that we need to stop the stigma, but I think more important is exactly HOW you stop the stigma. Do people need more information about eating disorders for men? Does the media need to not only target women when talking about eating disorders? If more men share their stories, then this might allow others to address the problem as well.
ReplyDeleteAn important concept that is brought up is not only the fact that men deal with eating disorders, but that they need help also. For so long, an idea has persisted in society hat men cannot or do not need help and that they should carry their burdens alone. The main way to help as mentioned in this post is to stop the stigma and this idea that the problem cannot occur with men when it can even though it may to some not happen as much as women.
